2,668 youth voices have culminated in the newly released Let’s Unpack with the Malay/Muslim Youth Taskforce report.
At Soristic, our core mission revolves around leveraging data-driven research to empower social impact initiatives. It has been a privilege for our team to support the Taskforce secretariat behind the scenes, capturing, synthesising and documenting the perspectives shared throughout this journey.
The Taskforce gathered perspectives from over 2,668 youth, including through Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), small-group engagement sessions, community engagements and surveys. These engagements reached MM youth aged 15–35 across different educational pathways, socio-economic backgrounds, and experiences and access to opportunities.
A few key insights from the report that resonated with us include:
💡 Redefining Success: Youth are looking beyond salary and status, valuing faith and values, mental resilience and financial stability, while some continue to feel pressure to pursue conventional or prestigious pathways.
💡Limited Social Capital: Youth want stronger access to meaningful networks, mentors and opportunities beyond their immediate circles, with mentorship emerging as an important bridge to guidance and support.
💡Desire for Trusted Spaces: Youth want to contribute and be heard in safe, authentic and trusted spaces, with smaller, safer settings and engagement that meets youth where they are helping to enable more open and genuine conversations.
It is encouraging to see these insights translate from recommendations to actions, including initiatives such as PA MESRA’s Let’s Sembang and NYC’s DISCOVER.
