This workshop is designed to help participants develop strong, persuasive grant applications that clearly communicate their mission, demonstrate measurable impact, and align with the priorities and expectations of grantmakers. Whether you are new to grant writing or looking to refine your skills, this session provides practical guidance and real-world strategies to improve your chances of funding success.

Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of how the grant funding landscape works, from identifying the right opportunities to submitting competitive proposals. The workshop emphasizes clarity, storytelling, and strategic alignment, helping you present your organization’s work in a way that resonates with funders.

Course Highlights:

  • Overview of Grant Cycles
    Learn how grant cycles work, including timelines, common requirements, and key decision points. Understand where your organization fits within the cycle and how to plan ahead for deadlines and reporting expectations.

  • Deciphering Grantmakers
    Explore how to research and evaluate potential funders, interpret funding priorities, and assess fit. This section focuses on understanding what grantmakers are really looking for and how to tailor your approach accordingly.

  • Crafting Compelling Proposals
    Develop the skills to write clear, concise, and persuasive proposals. Topics include framing your need, articulating goals and outcomes, building a strong narrative, and aligning your proposal with funder guidelines.

  • Hands-on Practice and Feedback
    Apply what you learn through practical exercises and real-world examples. Participants will have opportunities to draft or refine proposal components and receive constructive feedback to strengthen their work.

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to: 

  1. Understand the 6Rs of Grant Writing and their significance
  2. Craft compelling grant proposals with structured problem statements 
  3. Learn the 5W2H Framework and the Value Proposition Framework
  4. Learn differentiating factors to value-add their proposals
  5. Understand the nine types of impact risk
  6. Use the frameworks to enhance their grant proposals

Meet Your Facilitators!

Ms. Yap Su-Yin is a veteran nonprofit board director with deep sector knowledge, having served as CEO for a grant maker and Executive Director for University Advancement. She was awarded the President’s Volunteerism & Philanthropy Award (Leader of Good) 2023 for her contributions to Singapore’s social sector.

Ms. Pauline Tan is the Principal Consultant of Soristic, a social impact consultancy. She has conducted various philanthropic research as well as supported grant administration for a philanthropic organisation.

Funding Support:

The workshop is pre-approved under the Charities Capability Fund (CCF) Training Fund.

Eligible participants (exempt and registered charities, as well as Institutions of a Public Character (IPC)) may receive up to 80% course fee support under the CCF Training Grant and will only be required to pay subsidised course fee (i.e., after CCF funding) directly to Soristic. Soristic will manage the claims process with the CCF Secretariat on behalf of participants.

Important: Participants who do not meet the programme’s completion requirements will lose CCF grant eligibility. Soristic will invoice the participant for the balance of the course fees in such cases.

About CCF Training Grant

The CCF Training Grant provides co-funding for local training courses that helps charities.

  • CCF pre-approval period: 7 April 2026 – 5 April 2027
  • Pre-approved programme: Grant Writing for Success

Eligibility criteria for CCF Training Grant Applicants must be:

  • Charity Staff with an official designation and at least 6 months of service.
  • EP/SP/WP holders must have one year of remaining EP/SP/Work Permit validity at the point of application.
  • From exempt registered charities and IPCs, visit the Charity Portal (www.charities.gov.sg) to check on the charity status of the organisation.
 

To receive the grant disbursement, applicants must:

  • Complete 75% of the workshop
  • Pass Assessment
  • Have their application approved by CCF Secretariat 
  • Take digital attendance using SingPass
